Kigulu Chiefdom Museum, in Iganga.
In 2023, the Kigulu Chiefdom Museum moved from strengthen to strengthen. The museum completed and disseminated a research report on the cultural resources within its vicinity. The purpose of the research report is to create awareness among the Basoga, especially the youth about the cultural resources, including the cultural identity of the Basoga, much of which is disappearing due to the influence of foreign religions, miseducation, misguided modernisation, pressures of survival, economic dependence, politics, intermarriages, the collapse of family values, but most importantly, the lack of written records regarding the unique identity of the Basoga. Traditional values and practices, traditional rights, performances, rituals and assemblies such as last funeral rites and clan gatherings have been demonized or criticized as backward and portrayed as symptoms of the lack of civilization among the Basoga, by foreign beliefs, due to lack of authoritative documentation, proper explanation and/or contextualization. In this research report, the museum intends to reveal, educate and enlighten the reader regarding some aspects of history and Busoga cultural practices and values, how and why they were established and their importance.
